There was a semi-retired pastor in London that I had been encouraged to meet. He had a global prophetic ministry and was interested in how we could partner in missions.
He picked me up at the airport, and as we drove toward his home I could tell something was “off”. At the many of the roundabouts, he would go into full-on road rage! Not at all what I expected.
I didn’t know him very well, but I sensed the Holy Spirit had sent me to set him free. It took a few days to build enough trust to broach the subject. He toured me around the countryside and I was suitably impressed with all the things that were “famous” in his little town.
We hosted a tea for people interested in missions, and I used his office to prepare. I saw scriptures covering the walls, declaring the truth of who we are in Christ.
Finally the opportunity came to suggest something was wrong. He graciously agreed to look into it together. I asked the Holy Spirit questions and he answered. (His prophetic gifting was very helpful at this point.) We discovered he had quite a few demons in his life, none of which were his fault.
The Holy Spirit revealed that his mother was a practicing witch, and at birth they wrote obscenities all over his body, cursed him and filled him with demons. He had been working so valiantly all these years to keep his ministry healthy and fruitful, all the while unaware of this targeted opposition in his life.
We prayed and he was set free of all of them. 21 nasty demons with specific assignments that he’d been holding at bay, all gone. Hallelujah! On the ride back to the airport as we navigated the roundabouts, he was still saying all kinds of terrible things like on the previous ride.
The strange thing was, all the power had drained out. There was no emotion, no rage, just the habit of observing other’s driving habits, if you can imagine, in a flat, almost bored, voice: “where did he learn how to drive?” It sounded a lot different a few days earlier!
There are so many Christians, even in ministry, who are fighting the good fight, unaware that freedom is possible. Our job and privilege is to set them free by the power of Jesus’ name.
