I’m starting to write a book, with the working title: “God, the gods and Us”. It’s a retelling of the big story of the Bible from an Ancient Near East perspective🔍 where the spiritual world was connected to everything. For example, the mountains hosted gods, the stars were sometimes angels, and the sea was chaos and evil.
That means we miss a lot as westerners, like Psalm 121:1 “I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from?” isn’t just about physical mountains.
I want to explore how the secular way we see the world developed only recently, is not shared by most of the world and is not how the Bible authors thought🔍. Historically and globally, we’re the outliers, so we need to consider whether perhaps we’re the ones who have the limited understanding of reality.
I’m thinking I’ll just blog for a while until it’s time to weave the thoughts together into something more coherent.
