I could have titled this “one body, many members” or “church unity”, but let’s look at creation to understand spiritual things….
Google scientists said Wednesday they have passed a major milestone in their quest to develop effective quantum computing, with a new study showing they reduced the rate of errors—long an obstacle for the much-hyped technology…. The computers harness some of the most mind-boggling aspects of quantum mechanics, including a phenomenon known as “entanglement”—in which two members of a pair of bits can exist in a single state, even if far apart. – phys.org
Paul talks about the body of Christ working this way:
If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it. – 1 Corinthians 12:26
What if we are actually one body, and what we do matters to others in the body of Christ who aren’t even around us?
Einstein published a paper describing quantum entanglement, but he couldn’t get his head around how it could be true, so he eventually derided the idea as “spooky action at a distance”. Later, however, it was proven. And now it’s proving to be useful.
Somehow we know that our actions matter in the grand scheme of things. But like Einstein, we talk ourselves out of it because it doesn’t make sense. Here’s a different way:
Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work. – Ephesians 4:15-16
We can choose to believe that what we do affects the whole body of Christ.
But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. If they were all one part, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, but one body. The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the feet, “I don’t need you!” On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the parts that lacked it, so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it. Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. – 1 Corinthians 12:18-27
