Dreaming Dreams

In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. – Acts 2:17-18

Last night I had 4 dreams:

One, I was a police officer. My partner and I stumbled upon a major gang hide-out. I walked in alone, while my partner was calling for back up. It went fairly well at first – my boldness surprised the lookouts. But as I got further in the tables turned. It didn’t end well.

  • I knew immediately what this was. Circumstances led me to make some ambitious plans for the app I’m rolling out: I could get 20 people using it this weekend! Looking back, I know that I didn’t feel God’s peace with that idea. And I can now remember a few other people questioning the pace. So I’m going to pray about how to do this in God’s timing.

The second dream was about a personnel situation and the third dream was about the organizational implications. God is very gracious to me with these. I don’t have to interpret what’s meant by e.g. sailboats and rainbows. I was with the real people involved in the actual conversations coming. But I won’t get into detail here.

In the last dream was standing naked in our church service during worship. Heather was at my side, clothed. I had a towel with me, but I was warm and didn’t feel like putting it on. No one else seemed bothered, but I was very conscious of my situation. As the service was ending, I put on my towel to go. The guy sitting next to me started opening up about his life.

  • I asked Jesus, “so I should be more vulnerable at church and people will open up?” He said, “Yes, engage with those next to you. I have placed them there.” OK, that’s interesting. I’ll do it (with my clothes on).

The night I dreamt that my personal, ministry and board reports all work together, even though they’re different content. The one who was explaining this to me was someone who is in all three of those contexts. He seemed very happy for me, the way God works everything out.

  • God didn’t seem interested in processing this with me. So I was just encouraged, but I don’t really know what it meant.

The night before that I woke up to a prophetic word from a friend, warning me of traps the devil is trying to set for me. So I may have had dreams, but I don’t remember them.

The night before that I had 3 dreams. Here are the summaries.

  1. Construction project managers are underpaid for the value they contribute. – I discussed with Jesus and realized I’m not valuing the disciple-makers enough in the way I’m implementing this app.
  2. People need instant feedback. – I modified the specifications of the app accordingly.
  3. Don’t just say the standard stuff in your blog. – This is why the last few entries are a little different.

The two nights before that I had dreams. The three nights before that I may have, but forgot them. I don’t know what percent of my outlook for the day comes from dreams, but it’s quite high.

Maybe God’s talking to you in dreams. If you take the time to notice them, reflect on them and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal things to you, you may find, like I do, that God speaks to you in ways you wouldn’t necessarily be open to if you were awake.

But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.” – Matthew 1:20
