…continued from The Holy Spirt (2)
When the prophet came back a few months later to teach on prophecy, I was all in. About 800 of us gathered for the day to learn how to hear God for others. After several hours of teaching, we came to the practical exercise: Sit beside someone you don’t know and listen for 8 minutes, then tell them what you heard.
I sat next to an elderly lady and “listened”. Silence. I tried various things for four or five minutes, like scrunching my forehead, but I couldn’t hear anything. So I gave up on my physical ears. Around the six minute mark I was getting desperate, finding random Bible verses and looking at the lady for clues. Nothing. With not much time on the clock I resolved not to be the only one in the room who couldn’t do this. I told God I’m just going to make stuff up and if he’s not going to help me it’s going to be all wrong.
I closed my eyes and “saw” a big wall of flesh. It was so large that it filled my entire field of view. I thought, what could be that big and be alive? It must be God. But what about the lady? Then I saw in my imagination her cleaning the wall of flesh with a mop. Weird. I wondered what God would rather have her doing. She’s an old lady, so I pictured her having tea with God. The story went on like this: me imagining things and talking to God about them. Not at all convincing, but at least I had something to say.
When the time was up, she shared what she heard for me, which made no sense, and I shared the rather involved story I had for her. Then the prophet asked for testimonies. He wanted only 3 stories from the 800 people, only if they were extremely accurate. The lady got up to go to the washroom, and I waited to hear the stories. But then she turned and walked up onto the stage! I couldn’t have been more shocked. She shared how every part of what I said lined up with her life story. Craziness. What are we into here?
(I should add that two weeks later I was in a room with bright fluorescent lights. I closed my eyes and my vision was filled with the same wall of flesh. My eyelids! Fascinating how God is able to use any means to talk to us.)
