Language!

I was on the phone a couple of months ago telling someone the story of how all these Afghan refugees suddenly landed in our city and now we have an Afghan church.

From the other room I could hear Heather reprimand me: “Language!”

I quickly corrected my statement. We don’t have an Afghan church. God does. It’s his church. She wasn’t being funny. She was scared for me. And she should be. Why did I say that? A little bit of pride spilling out? Trying to impress someone? Whatever it was, it can’t be good.

Earlier this year I gathered a group of prophets from various nations to listen to God together. Two statements stood out to me:

  • “I will suffer your churches no more” – the emphasis is on your. If we think they’re our churches and God thinks they’re his churches, how’s that going to go for us?
  • “The kings will fall” – anyone who’s building their own kingdom is going down. It feels like we’re the grass, and God’s lawnmower is coming.

“The mouth speaks what the heart is full of” – Luke 6:45

Let’s watch our language.
