Another conversation I had with God a couple of years ago….
Good morning, Doug. Another day on sabbatical. What do you hope for?
I’d like some signs that I’m abiding better, depending more on You.
I will grant you that. Come with me.
Where are we going?
Come be with me.
OK, then, what am I leaving behind?
Leave the clutter of your life.
{I looked it up: clutter = “a collection of things lying about in an untidy mass”}
You mean the pile of crap I’m working on?
Yes, walk away from the pile of crap and come to me.
What about the pile?
Each day has enough troubles of its own.
Leave it at the cross?
Yes, that’s where the pile already is. I’ve taken care of it.
But what about my current relationships?
Are you going to solve your relational problems by studying the pile or trusting in me?
Trusting.
Then let go of the pile and be free.
That seems irresponsible. You’re the one who showed me that stuff.
I showed you so you can be free of it, like I’d show you a demon. Don’t hang on to that stuff; it won’t help you. Be saved. Receive your salvation.
OK, how?
Confession and repentance: turn away from the pile.
{After confessing} Is that the pile you paid for?
Yes, my son. It’s all paid for. It is finished.
Hmm; it makes sense then why I wouldn’t be working on it.
You’re free from that crap 🙂
What’s happening with the pile?
I’ve taken it away; it’s not yours anymore: I paid for it.
It’s not my pile?
Nope. Which is why you can’t fix it. You don’t own it. It’s not yours.
You have my crap?
It’s not yours anymore.
I don’t have any crap?
Not right now. You can add some today if you like. Then you can give that to me too.
Thank you. I remember asking you a few weeks ago to make the cross more central to my life, and you just did.
You’re welcome.
