Here’s a conversation I had with God a few years ago….
I see a cardboard box. What does it mean?
Do you see the lid is off? I’m taking you out of your box. Stop thinking about your box. We’re leaving it behind.

My flesh?
Yes, your identity outside of me. Let it go.
It looks useful; like I should keep it around in case I need it.
It’s lying to you. You’re never going to need it. Throw it away.
What if one day it would come in handy and then I won’t be able to get it back?
That day will never come. It’s not even a great box. There are big holes in it. You don’t even like it.
But it feels irresponsible to just throw it out: it’s strong.
It’s cardboard! Come on, put it in a blue bag and kick it to the curb.
Maybe someone else wants it.
Trust me, no one wants your flesh.
OK, I’m coming out.
Nice to see you — your box wasn’t even attractive.
You are my new container?
Yes, clothe yourself in me and forget about defending your box.
This is different.
You know these things, but it’s hard for you to live them. Not because you don’t understand; you’ve always known this. But you’ve constructed a worldview to justify the preservation of your flesh.
Tear it down, Lord!
You are holding on to the remnants of your crucified flesh. Let them decay. Your flesh will stay with you, but you can crucify it daily — let it decay.
Alright, I am yours, clothed in you — help me stay there.
I’m right here with you, and that box is starting to rot 🙂
Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh. – Romans 13:14
