I was contemplating the rallying cry to “change the world!” – I think it means everyone else is supposed to change. Similar to how I used to be “working on my marriage”, which means my wife’s supposed to change – otherwise I would use different language. 

Wouldn’t it be better if I changed? Ya, you’d think so, better than trying to manipulate others, but I’ve tried that. No. It just switches from judging others to judging myself. Trying to improve my life… against what standard? The law? Not good news.

So I’m left with what the Bible actually says. Not “change the world” but “love the world”. Love doesn’t require anyone to change – including me. Jesus laid down his life so I don’t have to work on mine. What I can do is give up my life for God and others. I can die.
